In a world that teaches us we must always be productive in order to be achieving anything. A world that everyone is to busy to simply smile. A world in which people are quick to say I don’t have time for x. It is so important that you just take time to pause.
When one takes time to pause it allows you to reflect, to check in, to understand where you are truly at rather than just do do do. Don’t get me wrong there is a certain sense of urgency that we all feel and you feel like you have no choice but to just carry on getting things done but this is truly an illusion. There is a reason we need sleep. There is a reason we process memories in a certain way. There is a reason for everything. When you’re constantly in go mode you never really zoom out. You never really look at how far you’ve progressed or way in which you can adapt because you’re too busy on x2 speed not even pausing for a second.
Believe me, I too have been guilt of this. It is easily done. After all, pausing after always doing feels uncomfortable. But when you finally learn how to pause, you realise why the most productive people in the world schedule time to pause.
So what does pausing actually look like?
It truly differs from person to person, the important thing is, figuring out what works for you.
Perhaps it is a few minutes at a certain point in the day. Or a scheduled time of day. Perhaps you pause and write your thoughts out or brain dump into a digital format. Or perhaps it is you going for a walk. Or painting. Or simply sitting with your thoughts.
The important thing is, you need to pause. Not wait for your body to force you to pause.
Let me know what you think!
